A no host bar (sometimes spelled no-host bar or nohost bar), also known as a cash bar, refers to bar beverages at a social event, which guests are required to pay for themselves. It is opposed to a hosted bar where drinks are paid for by the host.
The phrase may be expanded to "no host bar and menu" or "no host dinner". It is common for organizations to host an event in which they provide "hors d'oeuvres and a no host bar".
A no host bar is an option for providing drinks at weddings, however, traditional etiquette in the United States would say this is in bad taste and it is preferable not to serve alcoholic beverages at all than to provide a no host bar at a wedding.
