HPV vaccine for males???

The HPV vaccine is only for four types of HPV, not all. There are at least 30 different kinds. The reason they are so concerned about giving it to young girls is because of the cervical cancer. Cervical cancer kills 300,000 woman a year! Scientist are trying to prevent this by using the vaccine.

As for giving it to men, there really is no reason. They obviously can't get cervical cancer. They might get genital warts, but that is easily treated. If a guy who has HPV were to have sex with a girl, hopefully they would have been vaccinated. That is way they are giving it at such a young age, before they have sex (hopefully!).

I have had cervical cancer and genital warts. I wish it could help people already infected with HPV, but I'm still glad they have come out with it to hopefully prevent it.

There is an ongoing study to examine the effectivelness of the new HPV vaccine in men. Until that is completed and shown to be effective in men, the current approval is for women only, since that is the only study that has been done to date in the registration phase III clinical trial that were done for this new vaccine.
