no they are different plants,
sweet potatoes are red and grow on a vine that grows on the ground ,they are a little bit sweet.they are not round but shaped like a very fat carrot

potatoes grow under the ground ,on a plant .
the young ,little potatoes that form .the size of a gape up to the size of a chicken egg are called new potatoes .
if you leave them in the ground longer the will grow to become normal potatoes .
the time of harvesting determines the name

Definitely not: Sweet potatoes are Yams: The others are straightforward potatoes - as in making chips, french fries or mash. The 'new' potatoes are the early crop, whilst the later is known as the main crop. The new ones are easier to peel. Some people prefer them, others say they cause wind and indigestion.................

A new potato is small, white, waxy, thin skinned and generally found at this time of year - good with salad or melting butter.

I dont think so in the US a new potato is a small white potato. A sweet potato is a Yam ............ I think

no. new potato is a small, white potato smaller than your fist, and you eat a few. a sweet potato is a yam, which is reddish in colour and totally different taste.

no, a new potato is an early one, thin skinned and small and sweet - a sweet potato, aka yam, is a whole nother thing.

No it is not the same .

But the sweet potato ( Ipomoea batatas) isn't a yam ( Dioscorea) they look similar but they are not related.
