Does a chicken grow on a plant? NO. It walks around, eats, reproduces, feels pain, bleeds....yeah...I think that would qualify a chicken as meat. I really despise when people claim they are vegetarians but they will eat chicken and fish. I guess, then, that everyone in the U.S. is a dang vegetarian then.

OH JUST HOLD ON TO YOURselves! Everyone has an opinion & so do I! Chicken is Poultry. Poultry is considered meat. Not RED meat, but it is meat from an animal, which MANY Vegetarians will not eat! Don't worry about what people say. Don't worry about what she says. She will figure it out soon enough on her own. She is not a true vegetarian. She would be classified as a "No red meat person". But she probably feels better saying she's a vegetarian, because she doesn't know enough yet. Leave her alone, unless you want to drive her back to the burger stand! I discovered a great product by the name of "Wheat Meat" (Gourmet Grain Protein), & it tastes so much like real chicken, I had to double check the box for ingredients. Maybe you could pass this on to her someday, or just go out & buy a box in the frozen food section of your Health Food or Specialty Store. Log onto www.whitewave.com & read about this product by White Wave Foods. Any ex meateater appreciates some "comfort" food now & then!

Yes. She's not a vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian for over 7 1/2 years, and anything that walks is meat.

She's not a vegetarian if she eats chicken. While it is poultry, it's still classed as a meat. The idea of being a vegetarian is to not eat any meat.

Yes, chicken is poultry. So is turkey. All poultry is meat. This girl is not a vegetarian if she eats chicken. It sounds like she just doesn't eat red meat (steak, hamburger, etc.). A lot of people stay away from red meat for a healthier diet, but these people are not vegetarians.

She may have been misguided by her parents. As she eats chicken she is not a vegetarian. Chicken is white meat, the same as fish.

Ask her what is poultry ? It has no relation to vegetation, chicken is a bird, a living being. We have to kill the bird/poultry and the take the meat out of it. That itself defeat the purpose of being vegeterian. So, its simply a non veg form of food.
