Collard greens are the tops of some root vegetables, like turnips. Those are turnip greens, but I don't know what root vegetable collards come from. They're usually cooked with a smoked ham hock, or other kind of smoked meat. The flavor is similar to that of spinach, only more bitter. This may seem icky, but TRUST ME, collards are YUMMEEE!!!
Grits are ground up hominy, which is super soaked big corn. Think polenta, but grits are white. They taste good with salt, pepper, and butter. Or you can put salt, butter, and a little sugar. Some people put maple syrup. Basically they're bland, so you can spice them up any way you want. Some people put cheese, mmm!
If you have a Southern or African-American friend, go to their house and eat this stuff. I had my first taste of collards at Mrs McCauley's kitchen, that's my best friend's mother. (My best friend is African-American.) Man oh man, WONDERFUL stuff!!! Her momma can definitely cook up some greens!!!

You mean collard greens? They're sort of like cabbage. Grits are similar to rice. Both are considered southern foods.

A country girl like I would know exactly what you're talkin' about. ;) COLLARDGREENS are basically like a cousin to spinach. Grits are a corn product. It looks "grit-ty" but its actually smooth and tastes great with butter and with some salt and pepper.

I don't eat grits, but they are mushy sweet stuff, kinda' like oatmeal, 'cept it doesn't require a whole lot of chewing. Collard Greens..don't get me started, I love collard greens, think spinach, yet it's spicey, smells like wet dog sometimes, and has meat with it.
