I have heard of couples that have been together 10 or more years, one partner has herpes and the other doesn't. Just because your partner has it doesn't mean you will get it, or not for a while a least.
I have been with my fiance for 5 years now, I have herpes and he doesn't. This doesn't mean he will NEVER get it, he just hasn't so far. We have unprotected sex, but if I am on an outbreak we absolutely do not have sex.
So, even if your partner says that you for sure have it, doesn't mean you do. If the test is coming back negative then obviously you don't have it. Usually people don't even know they have it until they have their initial (or primary) breakout. If you haven't had one, chances are you don't have it.
Hope that helped! Good luck!

Have you had a type specific IgG blood test done to see if you have herpes?
Just because he has it doesn't mean you do.
Some people will have it and never have an outbreak. Others have it and will have very mild symptoms. For some people, a blood test is the only way to know for sure.
And read the herpes handbook at the website I have listed below.

I just found out last year that I have genital herpes. I had no idea.
The ER doc told me it was a terrible yeast infection, I took a blood test and it was positive I was floored.
It can be asymptomatic and you have no idea you have it. Did you know that 70% of people have no idea they have herpes. Thats a huge #. Just make sure that he/she takes their suppresive therapy medication that will lower the transmission rate by 50% and use condoms, although those are not 100% either. Just be careful and get yourself tested 2 times a year.

you probably have it but don't have the outbreaks. my brother-in-law and sister had been 'active' and faithful to eachother for months, but my sister got tested and her results came back positive for herpes but his didn't. he was the carrier and gave it to her but only she gets the outbreaks...if that helps.
