I bought a handbag on eBay that has a strong odor of cigarette smoke and the seller claims that noone in her home smokes and that she has asthma. Could her asthma keep her from smelling the smoke on the bag?

I talked to a doctor about this and she said that some people with asthma develop nasal polyps which can affect their ability to smell properly. Keep that bag outside for a few days with a fan blowing on it... it should get better!

It has nothing to do with asthma. Could be she has sinus problems. I've had asthma all my life and the smell of smoke on something is overwhelming.

I would think that smoke was why she got rid of it, it aggravated her asthma. Allergies can hinder smell but asthma is from the lungs, so no. She's giving you a line.

I think you have been lied to...it's call Ebay...lots of lying done their. Blow up a big garbage bag, place a small bowl of ammonia in the bottom and place the purse in the bag...don't get the ammonia on it. Seal it up for a day or two and see if the smell is gone.

If anything I think it improves your sense of smell. When my asthma is slightly flared up any little smell to everyone else is overwhelming to me.
