Also, I was not anxious or nervous, I was trying to go to sleep actually. I went to a doctor who didn't see anything to immediately serious but he refered me to a cardiologist just to be sure. I feel pretty good now, but still a little odd. My chest doesn't hurt or anything but it doesn't feel normal either. It's all a little freaky to me.

You could be having an anxiety attack...are you stressed about something? Keep monitoring when it happens and then see your doctor. Good luck!

It could be tachycardia, which is defined as a rapid heart beat above 100 beats per minute. If this only happened once and you were nervous, anxious or exercising then not to worry, unless it continues to do so. If this has occurred without reason and makes you feel weak, dizzy or faint, you may have supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) which is is an abnormal fast heart rhythm that starts in the upper chambers, or the atria, of the heart. (Supraventricular means above the ventricles, tachy means fast, and cardia means heart.)
Normally, the heart's electrical system precisely controls the rhythm and rate at which the heart beats. In supraventricular tachycardia, abnormal electrical connections (or abnormal firing of the connections) cause the heart to beat too fast. Typically, during supraventricular tachycardia episodes, the heart speeds up to rates of 150 to 200 beats per minute and occasionally as high as 300. After some time, the heart returns to a normal rate (60 to 100 beats per minute) on its own or after treatment. If you think this may be the case, you MUST see a physician, preferably a cardiologist, as soon as you can. Take Care and I hope my info has helped you.

a gazillion things, but most likely represents an arrhythmia.

which one? hmm i'd say afib or other SVT.

But what causes that? right? If only one event, little worries. You were probably dehydrated, undernourished....

But could be inherent problem with the "wiring" of the heart, pretty easy to diagnosis with an EKG.

Could be a valvular issue, as the "wiring" goes near (practically through) one valve.

Or something extrinsic to the heart, like elevated thyroid function... Cocain use or withdrawl, alchohol withdrawl, even caffein abuse/withdrawl. Other drugs.

This may not have an answer too, hard to prepare for that, but the best docs see this, and may never figure it out.

Well it Can be also from stress. Or even from to much weight. I know this cause at 16 i had irregular heart beats felt like i just finish running. doctors said it was nothing, just stress. Now I'm 23 and ii started again. I was sent to a a cardio like u. I had a some test dont it turn out i have some intraventicular delay.... my lower part of the heart is slower at times. but if you are young n no problems maybe is just to much work and stress. dont do drugs or have to much caffeine that makes your heart (chest) feel weird at times.

I had something called paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. I went the ER and they told me I was having panic attacs for 20 years. My heart would take off and beat about 230 beats per minute and stick. Eventually, within a few minutes my heart would stop racing and it slowed down on its own. Then after about 5-10 years, my heart would stick at a rate of 230 and not stop, so I had to go to the ER and get treatment.
It took years for my cardiologist to finally send me to a physician who specializes in cardiac electrophysiology. He diagnosed my problem as AV node re-entrant tachycardia and cured me with an ablation.
Maybe thats whats wrong with you. Just a guess kiddo.

maybe you have a heart murmur. i have a heart condition that where my heart starts racing for no reason but i also get palpitations and these happen often. i'm on no medication for it, though i have to see a cardiologist every year. (so as you see it's not a big deal to me or the doctor really). but that is just my story, if you're concerned you should go. it really wouldn't hurt anything!
