A Fondue Party keeps people busy and talking during the entire course of the meal. Have a couple of fondue pots going at the same time, one with broth to cook meat and one with cheese. You can even do a chocolate desert fondue. Make sure you have enough wine to keep every happy because the meal takes longer than normal and is a very social event.
It's alot of fun!

Costumes, A Theme, Games, Good Food, dance/enteraiment.

Just let the guest have fun and provide activies, but let the guest decide and makde surenot to force activites and manage the party. Let the flow go.

There's an excellent game called Pit, you just need a table and lots of nearly-drunk friends to enjoy a mad, noisy and highly competitive game that everyone will love. You can usually buy it from Amazon for about 5, don't be put off by it's stock market history, it really does not require any sort of specialist knowledge to play!

Get together for a game night. Not just cards, but play Pictionary or a board game. Play different games, not just one. Then serve food that goes with games nights- big "Dagwood" style sandwiches made on a loaf of french bread and sliced into individual servings, sodas/beer, popcorn/chips, caramel corn, cookies, etc.

Have a games night, so after dinner play a board game. Lets you have a chat while doing something that some of your friends may not have done for a while. You could also try a themed night ie. Mexican.
