Do you have your diabetes under control?

Most diabetes that are underweight don't have their glucose levels under control. If your levels are continuously high you will actually lose weight.

Pay attention to calories, the way a person trying to lose weight would, except add on 500 more calories. Keep in mind that you should already be eating very well, several times per day, to support your active life. That's what body-builders who are naturally thin do when trying to gain weight. Make sure those extra calories are healthy things you can eat (considering your health needs). I would agree with the answer above about healthy oils. Healthy proteins would be great, too, like very lean meats, beans, soy products (soy milk, tofu), protein shakes, or yogurt. Just beware that too much protein can be hard on your body & could weaken your immune system a little. Also don't try to gain weight too fast.

your BMI is a little on the low side. but it doesn't mean you need to gain weight by eating junk foods, sugary treats, and lots of carbohydrates. you're diabetic, not anorexic. eat vegetables and lean meat. as long as you're not starving yourself. you don't have to worry about gaining weight. (unless you have a thyroid condition)

Do not worry about gaining weight. It would be much better if you ate proper food and do proper exercise. If you do that, Your health and BMI should take care of itself.
