Cardiac arrest is defined as sudden failure of the heart resulting in inadequate cerebral circulation. Cardiac standstill is responsible for majority of cases, the other machanism being ventricular fibrillation [a cardiac arrhythmia (any deviation from the normal rhythm) characerised by rapid, irregular and ineffective twitching of the ventricles].
Causes:-Drowning, drug sensitivity, electric shock, Airway obstruction, etc.
Cardiac arrest should not be confused with cardiac failure.
Cardiac failure is said to be present when there is a fall in cardiac output and the heart is no longer able to meet the body's circulatory demands and metabolic demands.
Symptoms:-(1)Dyspnoea (difficulty in or laboured breathing), orthopnea (breathlessness necessitating an upright, sitting position for its relief), paroxysmal cardiac dyspnoea (occurs mostly at night in patients with cardiac disease), Pulmonary oedema (a form of waterlogging of the lungs because of left ventricular failure or mitral stenosis-a narrowing of mitral valve) (2) Cough (3) Haemoptysis-the coughing up of blood (4)Profuse sweating.
Please see the webpage for more details on Heart Failure.

Do you mean heart attack? Cardiac arrest would occur after you suffer a severe incident to the heart and there would be no symptoms;you'd be dead because "arrest" means "stop".
Here are the symptoms of a heart attack/myocardial infarction. These symptoms are more common in men, women have smaller, sneakier symptoms.
This description is from The Yale University School of Medicine Heart Book, page 12:
"chest pain,usually severe and persistent-lasting longer than two minutes;sweating,nausea;
dizziness;and fainting."
Women may just feel unwell, not right, tired and more run down than usual;there may be chest heaviness, but then there may not.
Doctors have only begun to notice the difference between male symptoms and female symptoms of heart attacks.Studies are currently being done;keep an eye out for the medical reports on the news.
You should just go to the Emergency Room if you feel something is going wrong with your heart;it's better to be safe than sorry. If you feel something is wrong, just make an appointment with a doctor.

when you're having cardiac arrest, you don't have time to consult with a cardiologist... you need to be in the ER fast.
usually, people who had heart attack describe it as "tightness of the chest" -- it feels like somebody's sitting on your chest (instead of a stabbing pain). pain and/or numbness in your left hand. profuse sweating. the chest pain itself is already the symptom -- start worrying if the pain suddenly goes away. it means either:
a.) the block in the coronary arteries were unblocked (good)
b.) the heart muscle died (bad)
the reason why you're having chest pain is because no blood is able to circulate in a certain muscle of the heart. if the pain suddenly goes away, it could mean that the muscle is no longer functioning. (this is for severe cases hopefully what happened was option A)

To give you your power of arrest the offender has to be either committing or guilty of an indictable offence. Common assault is not indictable however ABH/GBH are. So if these last offences have been committed you can arrest someone. However there are some issues. You need to know someone is committing or has committed the offence. As assault is a very complex area of law based around the belief of the person using force (with various laws creating circumstances where force can be used lawfully) it would be very hard for you to be certain. You do not have a power to arrest to investigate. So as you can't really be certain that someone has committed the offence or that the offence is indictable (do you know if an injury has occurred to make it either ABH/GBH) it would be unwise to act. Any incorrect attempt by you to use this would open you up to a criminal offence of false imprisonment.
