Can chickens (and chicks) takes showers on really hot days or is it bad for them?

Well, it's really hot where I live (above 100F during the day) and my chicks and chickens were panting so I hosed them down. They seemed to enjoy it but I just want to make sure it's not harmful for them in any way.

All birds and chicks love their baths and showers. Just remember not to have the water too cold - it is dangerous. Have the water lukewarm or at least at room temperature.

I am no chicken expert (unless we are discussing eating it) but I would say put out a sprinkler where they have access to go under the water from the water sprinkler if they desire to, if they do then it is by there own choice. Maybe even putting water in a shallow type trough for them to wade in if they want to, sort of like a ground level bird bath.

I personally wouldnt, you could do more harm than good. Mine all find a nice shady spot to lay down in have no problems dealing with the heat. Just make sure you have plenty of cool clean water around for them to drink

chickens typically do not like water, they take dirt or dust bathes to cleanse themselves , birds do not have pores in their skin and do not sweat,they displace heat by breathing, so if your chickens are panting ,they are hot . water will not harm them.just be sure their dry when go to roost at night

been around this old world a long time, but I've never seen a chicken shower, must be something new!

I live in the bush and I put the sprinkler on in summer for my chooks,,they really love it !

But I think you shudnt overdo it. Do it every day once. At midday..^_^
