i dont think it is possible to count the amount of languages in the world because there are so many and also so many dialects. mine is english

There are hundreds of different languages just in Papua New Guinea. You will not find them answering this question; they tend to be VERY poor in the PNG Hiighlands, and few have internet access.
Many folk in PNG speak 3- 4 languages; English, Tok Pisin (a "pidgin" or creole language), their own language, and their spouse's language ... and maybe a few more!
PS; if you speak the same language as a PNG person, they call you their "wontok" (one talk). It is a matter of different language groups, and villages, not different "tribes".

I looked it up and there are 6800 languages in the world as of 2004. I speak English, and can read Spanish.

Probably in the high hundreds, if not low thousands.
I speak American and Sign Language. :-)
English is what Englanders speak.
