Yes, depending on the type of beer you drink, heavy lagers and full bodied beer have a very high calorie count and since most drinkers drink more than one or two you could be looking at 300-2000 extra calories from beer in one night if you drink more than just "a few". People who on average drink 6-12 beers per day will have a rapid weight gain and have trouble controlling it. So just drink but watch the calories.
There are alternatives, if you like lighter beer then that might cut it down a bit.

Drinking in excessive amounts will make you gain weight. The reason for this is that when you drink, your liver needs to work harder than normal to digest the contents in alcohol. When you drink a lot, your liver has too much to do and gets overworked. When you hear the term 'beer belly,' it is caused from the excess drip of water from your overworked liver. When I heard this, I was thoroughly disgusted!

Not necessarily but if you are worried about gaining weight you should drink mixed drinks and beer in moderation cause they have the most calories.

Unfortunately, yes it can. Alcohol is stacked with calories. The damage is really done, though, with the munchies.
Not a good combination for the waist line.
Life's not fair.
