Separation of state & religion is always a tough one.
Is it fair, in the literal way yes, because it is for ALL religious items.
On one hand I see where the government is coming from, in 'theory' this should cut down on some of the local problems. On the other hand, I understand the girl's situation.
Even in the U.S. we are still dealing with issues of separation of state & religion in schools. One should not throw stones, if they live in a glass house.
Where I think the real story is, is with the young lady. She should be proud, she took a stand, stated her thoughts, yet broke no rules or laws of the land. That's more than I can say for a lot of adults! (on either side of the fence)

No! They can work to have the law repealed. This is actually a form of religious persecution. All Islamic people are not terrorist and they should not be treated as such. Who else did this law affect??? To what degree? I am a little surprised at the french. Did they not oppose the invasion of Iraq? Public protest and unity can move mountains. Peace be with you.

No this is not fair to this young lady.I am not a Muslim, nor do I believe in their faith, but I believe to each his own.I do not believe that the french government is being fair.If a person wears something on their head due to religious belief it should be acceptable as long as it is not disruptive. What this young lady did was admirable.I admire her for standing up for what she believes in.May thoughts and prayers are with her as she goes through this difficult time.

Wow, that was so moving and I am amazed at the courage a 15 yr old had to follow her beliefs. Took a lot of courage and look at how much she grew. I do not think it is fair but people do not like what they do not understand. Or they just hate what is different.

No, it's not. The separation of church and state is a good idea, but it should be meant to keep government from imposing a particular religion or any religion on the people. It should not be meant to outlaw the practice of religion.
Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, n'est-ce pas? Doesn't sound like Freedom Equality and Brotherhood to me.

What a couragous girl Alhamdulillah, she says:-
They took it as an act of defiance, rather than seeing it as a girl doing whatever it takes to obey the law without sacrificing her beliefs. The way I see it, I am doing wrong by neither the government nor my religion, and I'm happy about that.

we have these problems in Holland too. It's so sick that a society tries to put a ban on what a person is allowed to wear.
it's sad that this girl has to feel the need to be this courageous to just simply follow her riligious feelings. I have no idea why society makes it so difficult for people to simply live their lives.

NO IT'S NOT FAIR,BUT I'm really proud if this girl, her story really effected me and touched my heart.i don't know if I'm in her shoes what i' would do,take the same brave action or just obey the cruel aggressive laws that shows how non democratic and discriminated the west world is.i wish her best of luck in obeying god rules, any way I'm sure that god will reward her better.and punish the responsibles of this action.

The French not only ban headscarves, they ban medals and crosses and all symbolic religious paraphernalia. Children go to school to be EDUCATED. the biggest retarder of intellectual development is RELIGION. It has no place in an institution of learning.

It's her life, but I think that's a little extreme.
Especially since her family doesn't make her were the scarf.
Maybe France has a reason, but it's not fair to the Muslim girls who go to school.
