yes it is.

the material universe is what can be percieved by the human sense organs and their appendages, such as telescopes and the like.
what cannot be percieved by the sense organs is referred to as spiritual or paranormal.

however, materialistic can mean the state of constantly seeking financial gain(keeping up with the jones).

It's not materialistic to change a lightbulb, but if you actually spend more time concidering which bulb to purchase, what color, what style, what brightness...to use than what your kid is doing on the internet, then THAT'S MATERIALISTIC!
Materialism is basically spending more time worrying about THINGS rather than PEOPLE.

In philosophy, materialism is that form of physicalism which holds that the only thing that can truly be said to exist is matter; that fundamentally, all things are composed of material and all phenomena are the result of material interactions. Science uses a working assumption, sometimes known as methodological naturalism, that observable events in nature are explained only by natural causes without assuming the existence or non-existence of the supernatural. As a theory, materialism belongs to the class of monist ontology. As such, it is different from ontological theories based on dualism or pluralism. In terms of singular explanations of the phenomenal reality, materialism stands in sharp contrast to idealism.

I don't think so, even nuns and monks have to change a light bulb occasionally!

Materialism is when you are more concerned about having a $300 Prada hand bag than making sure your bills are paid or your child is fed.

materialism is loving the things of the world instead of laying up your treasures in Heaven
If you love "things", you love the World.
If you desire to please God, you can have "stuff" but do not put it before Him.

It is not wrong to have things you can afford. Just do not satisfy your ego to have them.
We all like nice things. We all like to look well. We all have to have certain things to get by.

Ask: would you be willing to not have things to be happy...or do you need to have to be happy.

If you can afford it and do not put it before helping others, then you go, girl..............
