Inspect the inside of the oven very carefully for food particles that have gone astray and burned black. Look in every single nook and cranny for them and clean them all out. If this has gone on for too long then the inside of the oven may have been damaged and you will probably toss it and get a new one.

Take the machine outside and remove the top of the cabinet. Using a strong leaf blower, blow as much of the dust & dirt out of the machine as possible. Discharge the capacitor and then remove the magnetron and inspect the antenna for food, dirt, grease. Spray the heat sink louvers with oven cleaner if it is gunked up with grease & dirt. Remove the wave guide and clean the dirt, grease, and food particles from the inside. Again, you can use oven cleaner and when finished, spray paint silver with the new X2 paint. Lastly, from the inside of the cavity, remove the plastic snap-on cover over the magnetron antenna. Remove all dirt, dust, and grease buildup from it and the cavity. If it continues to arc, replace the magnetron. eBay is a good place to look for used magnetrons and other microwave parts.

Sounds like to me your microwave is pretty much shot. Go to walmart and get you and good ole American cheapy Microwave.

Good 50 bucks will get you a microwave that lasts a year or two.

Or, unless it doesn't change the flavor of the food and cause problems, keep it. Maybe make a song out of the popping noises.

Seriously, buy you a new one. It is time. :)

seen this many times, you got food behind the Mica cover on the right side of the insde of the microwave and behind that is the magnetron antenna, if any food splatter gets on there is will super heat whil the magnetron is functioning (to cook you food) and with melt the mag's antenna and cause it to arc to itself and the cavity. depending on how hold, and what type of microwave you have depends on if it is work getting fixed or not.

Just go to Walmart and replace it. They are cheap enough to replace. Why risk a fire hazzard in the home? We had one catch on fire once. It was old and making strange noises. I had kids in the house. It is just not worth it.

Stop using it! Someone either turned it on with nothing in it, or put metal in it.
