eaten gravy on your cake or other sweet things? My father-in-law and brother-in-law swear it cuts the sweetness. I think it sounds disgusting. Your opinions?

Eeeew. Gravy should never be on anything sweet!! Gravy belongs on mashed potatoes....

If they're trying to cut the sweetness then they shouldn't be eating that much sugar in the first place. There are sugar-free sweets. The point of eating sugar is for the sweetness. Use a different type of sugar when baking. If they go out and eat sweets, then they'll just have to deal with it. Other than that...to each their own.
