I can survive on that.
I survive on less than that each month, but then I dont have high expenses, and dont rely on expensive entertainment...
Having fun in Korea is not an expensive matter.
Eat Korean food, instead of going out 'western food' or other country food.
Since there are two of you... I wouldnt really know.
I do know that some motels will rent out rooms monthly, and that they are fairly cheap. They get cleaned, have a bathroom, decent sized bed, close to all amenities (subways, buses, entertainment), cable tv. You might have noisy neighbours every now and then... the only downside is that there is no kitchen, you do however get a small fridge in your room.
When I was in Busan we were looking at that for a few months and was only going to be around $200-$300 a month. For two of us.
Some motels have access to swimming pools, internet and many other things, so it pays to look around. Motels are EVERYWHERE in Korea too.
If you are prepared not to splurge on luxury living absolutely you can manage on that much money. Yet you wont be living a horrible life either, there are many cheap things to do here.

FIrst of all, I'm Korean and still living in Korea.
About Koje do, "do" means an isle.
There's huge Shipyards in there.
Ok, enough for introducing...
About the accomodation thing,
I just searched Korean webpages...
there's nice website but it's all based on Korean language, so...
Accomodation in motel,
it will take about...
30,000 (standard) ~ 70,000 (summer time) won per a day.
http://www.geojedominbak.net/lodge/m_search.php?key_type=lodge_key&key_word=%B9%CE%B9%DA
Find finest motel in there, call him, and tell him
" I'll rent that place for a month. "
and negociate about the costs.
OR,
You could rent a house fully for a month.
It's not like a motel though, it's cheap.
about 300,000 won for a month.
I couldn't say detailly,
but if you need some details, mail me. :)
I hope you get a great place for your family.
see ya.

Rental could be expensive. I'm living in a studio apartment which rents out for 850 thousand won a month. Food costs is around 30 thousand a week for myself. Transport is around 8 thousand because I take the subway.
I think the amount is on the low side, and it would be difficult to live on it for two.

It all depends on where you are willing to stay and what you are planning on doing. Technically, if you are willing to stay in cheap little Yagwons (cheaper than motels) then maybe. You can get a room in some of these for as little as $25 a night. Plus you would be eatting Korean food rather than western food as western food is rather expensive in comparison. You would just have to budget carefully. If you are staying in Seoul ride the subway not taxi. But I suppose it is possible to do it.

No, it isnt. Accomodation is very expensive. My accomodation is paid for and I still can't get through the month with 4 million won. But then again I have two kids in public schools.
