Why is there belief i just one God? Thousands of years ago there were lots. I Scandinavia,Tor, Odin,Frey etc. In Greece,The founder of christianity there were loads. Why if God now exists should there be just one. Who decided that?
One other question if I may ask. Are there any Jews who contribute to this site. There is the occasional Muslim and Buddhist but Jews?
Iv'e been writing about this on http://thebaldchemist.blogspot.com in a vain attempt to get a reasonable reply instead of the standard defensive God decides.

Nobody decided that there should be one god. There is only one God.

First you have a category mistake in your question. First Greece is not where Christianity was founded. Christianity was founded in Israel by Christ Jesus and the apostles. In Acts 11:26 it tells when and where the followers of Christ were called Christians "And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians." Antioch is located in Syria not Greece.

I believe you are confused about the origin because the Septuagint (the greek translation of the original Hebrew text) and the New Testament were both written in Koine Greek (or Common Greek). History explains why the texts were written in Greek.

By the time of Christ, Alexander the Great had already taken over much of the world and died. He was a student of Aristotle who believed in unification. Alexander took this philosophy with him when he took over "the world" and forced everyone to speak the Koine Greek.

Christianity came out of Judaism. This was acknowledge by Christ Jesus Himself. John 4:22 "...we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews." Christianity believes in one god because the Hebrews believe in one god. Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: dThe Lord our God, the Lord is one."

Most historians believe that Ancient Greece existed from 1000 BC to about 200 BC. Rome took over after Greece. Deuteronomy (mentioned above) chronicles the life of the Hebrews during the time of Moses which ends around 1405 BC long before there was a Greek influence of multiple gods.

To quickly answer another post as to the statement in Genesis 1:26 "...26 Then God said, o “Let us make man in our image,..." There are many cases of this throughout the Bible. This is not a typographical error. There is only one God and He is in three persons, Father (God), Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. This doctrine has been around for a couple thousand years. God speaking among his "persons" further bears out His triune (three persons in one being) nature.

The book of John explains this well:
John 1:1-2
In the beginning was bthe Word, and cthe Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

The Word was "with" God and the Word "was" God. This clearly speaks of two separate persons here, then says they are also one. The "Word" was a way to explain Jesus. For God "spoke" creation into existense. See Genesis 1.

Later John reveals who the "Word" is:
John 1:14
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

I dont understand you. What will you do with one god or many gods. How does it make a difference.n whats this query about jews what u hate them or something.(wel im not a jew im an indian)n mind it im a doctor, not any priest whoz preaching,im just another human on this earth.

in my country i know a variety of Gods counts go upto thousands.i see sick people fighting n killing their species in the name of god.But there are many more true souls who live together respect each others religion n Gods too.Thats what the real Indian is about.Unity in diversity.

We just need some feeling of security that theres atleast some1 to whom you can turn to when even your closest may not b there for you.we turn to God rite when v r in need.It can be any god.its all man created so if i turn up 2 sm god n you turn to someother its just our choice, but ultimately there is just 1 power above us just different faces.(which is made so that we can relate to it as per out cultures n beliefs.)

For me it doesnt make any difference whoz follower of what until the God within you is still alive which i believe always shows you the right path, just find that within you then this question wont bother u.

Not Jewish but think I have your answer.

There is only one god or creator or whatever you want to call it/her/him.

But, it is like 4 people standing around a room looking at a statue in the middle. Everyone is looking at the statue, but seeing different angles. (It's that whole blind men and the elephant story).

Each angle (and there are way more than 4) use what they see to define their understanding of the room and the statue. Religions do the same thing to help their believers understand the universe and god.

We'll only know what the statue actually is or looks like if there is an afterlife and we make it there (and see who was closest).

There are still thousands of gods people pray to. Which one's the false one?

Just because the Judeo-Christian god is the most prevailant (with the Islamic god coming in close second) doesn't make it the end-all be-all god.

Buddhism doesn't have a god, by the way.

So, when you worship your jesus and yhwh hopefully you're not playing Russian Religion and pulling the trigger on the false god.

"only one creator"... Puhshahh.

Don't you think that many gods would cause confusion? It has. Look at how that people on this forum degrade each other in the name of their belief; god. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and that is how it should be. One God, one faith and unity between us humans. Don't you think the earth would be a more peaceful place?

Logically if there were more than one God, this universe would have been distroyed in the first moment, even it would never have come into existence.
there would be clash of order, power and choices etc.
One God would say, I want night this time , the other say, no this should be day now.
One would say I want guy (xyz) dead the other would say no I want him alive.
So this intact universe and a flawless system tells and indicates the oneness of Allah the Almighty.

Quran says :
"Say: He is Allah,
The One and Only.
"Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.
"He begets not, nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him."
[Al-Qur’an 112:1-4]

Put anyone to this test who claims to be God or you think he is God ...if it passes the test , no one should have objection considering him God .....
Have yoou seen such a complete difinition of God in just 4 lines ???

Its because When you think a divine supreme power , there is only ONE.
THIS is even the rule of the world , Dont you see There is always one Superpower in the comet of nations?
If you believe in the Signs of the Almighty , you see Him in His creations , then the mind itself rationalises this problem.
There is only one power , and He has no one to share it with .
