How to keep puppy out of the 'kitty fudge'.
If you are lucky enough to have a larger dog, use a litter box with a top cover.
Move the litter box to a place the dog won't fit. Example: bathroom closet, place a short door chain on door and leave it open. Kitty will fit, but not puppy.
Things I tried that didn't work:
Changing cat food.
Sprinkling hot sauce on the 'fudge'
Yelling NO #$%^&*
The command 'Leave it' works, but only if you are near by, and the odds are slim he will do it more than once with you watching.
Trust me you arn't alone, with this. There is a lot of use who deal with this issue. Go to any search engine and type "kitty fudge". ;-)

The term for it is called coprophagous. While it is not normal, it does happen with some frequency. The following is what one site says about it:
Why do dogs eat feces?
A lot of theories have been suggested as to why dogs eat feces. Are they missing something in their diet? Is there a medical problem? Generally not.
Dogs who eat their feces usually do not have a dietary deficiency. Some medical problems can contribute to coprophagy including severe disorders of the pancreas or intestine, severe malnutrition from massive parasitic infestations, or starvation. These cases are rare.
Some dogs especially those in kennel situations, may eat feces because they are anxious or stressed. One researcher suggests that dogs who have been punished by their owners for defecating inappropriately may be start to think any defecation is wrong, so they try to eliminate the evidence.
Another theory is that coprophagy is a trait passed down through the ages. Dog's cousins, the wolves and coyotes, may often eat feces if food is not in short supply. Feces from herbivores (animals that eat plants for food) contain many of the B vitamins. Some researchers suggest that wolves (and some dogs) may eat feces to replenish their vitamin supply.
Anyway you get the idea look up coprophagy in dogs and you're bound to find something to help you, good luck.

It´s called coprophagia. And it can be a sign of vitamin or mineral deficiency. It can also be a territory problem, animals mark their terriotory with urine and feces.
The best suggestion is for you to speak with your vet concerning your pets feed, all brands are good brands as long as the pet can digest it and get the alotted nutrients from it. Remeber the dog food comercials are meant for you not the dog, read the nutritional information. This may sound weird but depending on the breed will be the food. Dalmatians for example can be allergic to meat, don´t laugh I know more than one vegetarian dalmatian. Great Danes and Shar-pei´s can developed crooked feet due to too much protein in their diets, this is why the dog food company have been developing feeds that are breed specific. I hope this helps.

Well this is something that dogs just do, mine did until I went to the vet to ask the same thing you are asking, there is something that the vet has that you sprinkle over the cats food so that their crap will taste awful to the dog, I know you would think it would already taste awful, but apparently not. The sprinkle stuff is not very expensive, but it may take about a week to get the dog to completely stop, good luck!!

They normally do this because they are jealous or threatened by the animal is question.. Older dogs do it with pups a lot. Does the cat get more attention than the dog and is the dog used to being the object of affection?

I like Amber's advice :)
My dog is like that too tho, repulsive, esp if they like to lick you... try sprinkleing some red pepper in the litter box, I'm not sure how the cat will feel about this but I bet it would work, or just teach him the same way you would teach him not to steal food off the dinner plates.... hell I don't know, but it is the nastyiest damn thing EVER!

dogs are sick dirty animals. and yes they seem to love cat poo. i dont know why. must taste yummy to them or something. who knows. i would try and separate the dog from the part of the house where the litter box is. or you could do the old rub his face in it....

This is completely normal behavior for dogs, hey less work for you right? My dog has been doing it for years with no problems. If it bothers you, ask your vet for a food additive for the cat that will make the poop taste bad to dogs. I know, I know, Poop already tastes bad but not to dogs.

Unfortunately, that's what dogs do. I live on a farm and my dogs are constantly eating chicken and turkey crap and sometimes even horse crap! There really is nothing you can do about this!
