I have bipolar disorder with psychotic features. My partner does not. Will we be together for ever who knows. We have our struggles but we love each other so we will persevere. You may have a better understanding of your partners mental health issues, because you share a disorder, but you cannot predict the success or failure of your relationship based on that.
good luck. I hope it goes well for you. I have been married three times.
re:if your parents have bipolar disorder you have a 70% chance of not getting it. for the people who suggest getting fixed and not having children, get real. They used to do that in the fifties to young women who were promiscuous, yes that's true apparently a woman in the fifties who enjoyed sex was potentially mentally ill. the ignorance of you people regarding mental illness is staggering. It is enough people with these illnesses are marginalized in our culture, now we should be getting neutered. what a wonderful world this is eh? read about what the Nazis did to the mentally ill during the Second World war, apparently some people do share your views.

Besides being on medication, do you go regularly to a counselor? Do you take your meds as instructed? These are important questions.
You can live a relatively normal life if you both adhere to proper medications that help you and seeing a professional on a regular basis.
Having said that, relationships are difficult without other problems adding to the mix. I suggest you be realistic and take one day at a time, make the best of it and don't be concerned with "forever", that will come if you make the right choices.
As the first person to answer put it so bluntly, regarding reproducing, that is something to consider. Most people with bipolar pass it along to children, so if that is something you don't want to do, and given you both have it, the odds are high, getting tubes tied or a vasectomy is an idea. Until then, make sure you are responsible and use adequate protection plus a good birth control method every time.
Have you considered joining a church to get spiritual help?

It might be interesting to see what happens over a weekend if you both go off your meds. No, skip that, it might be dangerous.
I think it is wonderful that two people with the same disorder have found comfort with each other.

Depends on whether you stay on your meds and are willing to be monitored by your M.D. rigorously. If you are willing to take good care of yourselves and do what you know you need to do...then it's possible. If you go off your meds seeking that manic high, you're doomed. You can do it....stay regulated and keep a strict routine.
Bless you!

Yes, you just have to stay on your meds, and go to your doctors appointments when you are suppose to. Also, check into getting into counseling together. It will help alot for when you have the outbreaks. God Bless, and Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Did you know that it is a hereditary illness? If you marry, please have no children or adopt instead of having children who are sure to inherit this terrible illness.
No one can tell if you can stay together or not.
