Usually they are wearing mp3 players and running with traffic so they can't see or hear approaching cars. What's the thought process that leads them to think this is a good idea?

The thought process they are concerned with is the fact that sidewalks are notoriously uneven and they have probably taken a few spills on them. In addition, they are usually full of people that are slow to move while the runner is trying to maintain a constant pace. Hence the reason a jogger person down here was hit and killed by a car as she was doing exactly what you are describing. It is not a good idea, especially with all the paths and parks around these days. Doctors are in agreement jogging is no longer as good an exercise as originally thought since the impact on the knees and ankles makes for serious damage in time. Good question!!

The reason is this, running on asphalt rather than concrete is easier on the joints... I am a runner and i don't run with an mp3 only because its not safe.... don't get why people run with them on and i to see this and get very frustrated.... would never run with the traffic too dangerous and very stressful...Defeats the purpose as to why i would run........this is my thought process, and its obvious others just don't think.....

I see wherein u get mad. I'm a runner, and I've attempted it each methods. a few runners simply choose to run within the avenue, considering they think they have got extra 'area' or maneuverability(if that's a phrase). While jogging at the sidewalk the runner feels he/she has constantly appear down. Objects corresponding to timber, poles, and civilians jogging down the block. I have determined it doesnt make a change, the runner has to get use to jogging on a sidewalk. On the opposite hand runner's will gradual down only for jogging at the sidewalk. at night time despite the fact that you cant yell at them approximately that. Whenever I run at night time or early within the morning I continuously put on a kind of vests that shine. Night time I continuously run on sidewalks. Not for security however for security. Couple of occasions I've had a auto of ingesting young adults throw beer bottles at me at the same time jogging. thus far their goal has been very deficient. at the same time within the morning i choose to run at the avenue, simply to think extra open and loose. simply honk in case you believe the runner goes to be a viable risk(to be hit). The runner will generally tend to gradual down or transfer farther to the aspect.

Presumably to avoid inconsistencies in the sidewalk pavement or to avoid other human beings going at a sower pace on the sidewalk. In traffic or wearing headphones, I agree that it's not work the risk.

I'm one of those people. I run on the street instead of the sidewalk because my knees bother me, and when you run on the sidewalk you have to cross all those driveways with the sidewalk sloping all different directions, and I don't feel like that's good for my knees to have my feet tilting all different directions all the time. My mom also runs on the street for her knees' sake, but her reason is she thinks asphalt is softer than cement (??!!!). I don't get it. Anyway, we both stay out of the way of cars though.

GOOD QUESTION.......mainly runners who run frequently find the road easier to run. Why do mothers walk with their children in the stroller ON THE ROAD? Why do people walk their dogs on the road when their is a sidwalk? Why do people ride bikes on the road when there is sidewalk.........because they are thoughtless, ignorant, and stupid!!!

Sidewalks may have too much people on them, or the road is smoother and you can see more things that come your way

they are stupid for running in street but i think so they can keep a steady pace meaning of that don't have to keep going off and getting up on curbs
