Be thankful for what you have, take small steps to correct the things that you can change. Take time to listen to the birds and watch sunsets. Find things that interest you and you find rewarding. For some people, taking a little time to volunteer makes them feel good. Don't sweat the small stuff. If you wake up in the morning and say "Today is going to be a great day" and you really believe it; It will become a self-fulfilled prophesy and your off to a good start. It all comes down to attitude dude!

Several things help:
Not taking yourself too seriously, or the rest of life.
Not worrying about what people think of you, or that people are always watching for you to do something wrong.
One day at a time.
SSRI anti-depressants and talk or cognitive therapy.
Positive thinking--or at least challenging negative thinking.
Exercise--releases endorphins.
Letting go of troubling thoughts, not ruminating on them.
A spiritual base.
A good friend you can talk to.
Not isolating. Stay active & around people.
Believing in yourself
Getting enough rest and eating right.
Avoiding alcohol.

Any combination would help at least somewhat. See what works best for you.

When you look at people whose life is less fortunate than you, you will feel grateful that your life is not as bad as theirs. That will make you feel better and happier since you're not living in a bad situation.
