Below should be a link on Wedding Etiquette for all parties involved in the wedding and reception. As far as having a different dress, I wore a different dress at my best friends wedding since I was her Matron of Honor. You can decide what you like. For example, someone else suggested maybe having the same dress but in a lighter shade, but I would match her dress with whom she is walking down the isle with just so they are not out of place with the other bridesmaids and groomsman. If you feel you don't want to have them wear something different, have her wear a different hairstyle or with a small headband of flowers on her head. The option is entirely up to you since this is YOUR special day!

Just do whatever is more convenient for everybody. My bridesmaids and maid of honor had on the same dress as everybody else. They did however have on like sashes and my maid of honor just wrapped hers a little different. Go to my yahoo 360 page and you can see the pictures. Hope this helped anamo79

My maid of honor wore the same style, but in a different color so did the best man. They both wore a deep burgandy colors while the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore a lighter lavender.

She can, but I think it looks better if they all dress the same. I've seen it done where they wear a different dress and it just looked out of place. Almost like they ran out of that dress and had to throw her into something else. If you want her to stand out, try getting her a different bouquet of flowers from the other girls, or a different kind of head piece or something. My maid of honour wore a tiara that matched the one I wore.

The first person who answered this question had a good point. However, I feel that if you want your maid of honor to look differently than the rest of your bridesmaids to make her feel special, then that is your perrogative. It is YOUR wedding. You can do whatever you want to.

Only if she pays for the wedding - just kidding. It depends on how you want the wedding. Then the best man might have to wear a different suit or tie than the ushers. I've seen weddings either way.

the rule is that she CAN. but the rules are fast fading. people are just going w/ what works for them. you may even look into having all your maids wear a different gown in the same shade. or the same gown but in alternating colors or in different shades of the same color. if you do the last- try to keep semblance by having all the fabric be the same (ie. chocolate satin, mocha satin, champagne satin).
have fun!

sounds like a fine idea to me, talk to her and see if she would be comfortable wearing something else. Talk to your bridesmaids also, but know that ultimately this is your wedding and it should be done the way you have always hoped and dreamed for it to be done.

Totally up to you. Some people like to do that, whether it's a different color but the same style or a different style but same color. It's your day, so your decision! Have fun!

I always thought the other women who were not maidens of honor felt let down because you didnt pick them. Make them all maidens of honor.
