The Priory of Sion was a hoax. Conspiracy theories aside, the organization was thoroughly investigated in France. Pierre Plantard founded the association in 1956. The evidense showed to prove the organization was an ancient organization were not considered authentic in the beginning and later found to be forged. For more information see the source below.
