Many of the radioactive elements released by Chernobyl are also dangerous heavy metal toxins.

Nuclear radiation is not a toxic chemical it is more just a physical process where a active atom is in the process of decaying into a different atom. The thoery behind it is general but I could not be bothered to continue. Any physics text would have the theory you want. If you are familiar wih chemistry and physics it is all apparent. I do not think that it is considered toxic. It probobly goes to say that a substance that is radioactive emits radiation. Hope that helps.

radiation itself is not a chemical... the nuclear material that is decomposing is a toxic chemical though... radiation is the release of particles, neutrons, electrons, or protons, from chemicals like plutonium and uranium as they decompose (basically fall apart) into other materials... The radiation, as far as I know, is not usually considered a chemical in itself...
