make them where gloves/mittens or they make this stuff that you put on your finger nails to keep you from biting them. It tastes really bad so you take your hand out of your mouth. It seems like that would work for thumb sucking too. It's totally safe for kids.

They have medicines that have a terrible taste that is harmless and made for children who suck there thumbs.You put it on there thumbs everyday and trust me they won't like the taste and they'll stop.

It depends on how old they are, if they are younger, just keep a watch on them and take their finger out of their mouth. If they are older, do the same thing, but when they to the point where they know they aren't supposed to do it, LIGHTLY smak their hand, after you tell them to take it out of their mouth along with a hand gesture (as if you were taking fingers out of your mouth) This has worked wonders for my 2 yr old. It didn't take very long and she just takes them out when I ask now, which isn't very often.

Put hot sauce or hot pepper on their thumbs. Repeatedly.
