I am not sure how old or young you are but if you are old enough, you can say no to being hospitalized or have a parent/guardian say no if you aren't old enough. I know that our daughter over 4 years ago had problems when she was in 4th grade, and because at that time she was being extremely violent, and was then to go on to be diagnosed with bipolar, but she stayed one night in the emergency area. We then refused her to be hospitalized, and I stayed home with her and was with her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the medication kicked in and she was feeling better. She also went to a psychologist and still goes now and then, as it helps her to not only talk with us but to talk to a therapist. You have say over your own care, especially if you are at that moment of legal age, and of sound mind, etc. Good luck, just don't worry about it all, go and get the help you need! Just make sure you find yourself a good psychiatrist, referrals from friends, family members or call to your local hospital and they'll usually give you 3 names of psychiatrists. Take care of YOU!!!! You may also need a tranquilizer of some kind, and if you are continuing to have suicidal thoughts, sometimes having that major tranquilizer can calm you down until the antidepressants kick in. Please get help ASAP!!!

In my state of the US, things are here like they are in probably most other states right now. When Republicans are in office, mental health funding gets cuts drastically. The first time my friend was committed, they only kept her 2 days because it was Dec. 23, and the staff wanted their Christmas holiday. The second and only other time they gave her what she felt like she needed (3 weeks). I have heard people are only getting 3 days now, no matter how bad they are. My guess is, you should just ask for the antidepressants, but tell them you don't want to be locked up. As a last resort if they do decide to lock up you or someone you know, ask to sign yourself in, because it looks better that way.

Don't worry about getting locked up for saying that you feel suicidal sometimes. They only put people into a hospital observation unit if they say that they are actively contemplating suicide. Hopefully the doctor will find that you have a chemical imbalance that is the source of your depression and he or she will be able to find the right medication to correct this condition.

However, if your depression isn't due to a physical condition then you might want to seek healing from the Great Physician himself. Turn to God in prayer and ask Him to forgive your sins in the name of Jesus so that you can receive the Holy Spirit and experience the joy and fulfillment that only comes from filling that God shaped hole that every person has in their heart!

Lots of people feel suicidal from time to time, especially when they're young. It doesn't mean you will commit suicide, but you must tell your doctor how you feel. Anti-depressants can take up to a month to "kick in" sometimes, so try to be patient. It takes a really severe illness to be "involuntarily" put into a hospital, in the absence of committing a crime. You shouldn't fear that. You should, however, always be totally honest with your doctor. If not, you're only hurting yourself and those who care about you. Good luck.

Take things one step at a rime. first go see the doctor and talk to him or her to find out how they react to what you say. You will really need to pay attention to their cations more than what they say. A good doctor will not automatically send you to a hospital. Don't mention the suicide feelings until you know some about the doc. Many times the shrink will try and stay where you can't see them but at first do not let them. turn to them if they move out of your sight. After you are comfortable then it may be alright for them to be out of sight. If you are not comfortable then find another.

They will not lock you up if you say that sometimes you feel suicidal. You need to be as honest as possible. The only time they can lock you up is if you are CURRENTLY trying to hurt yourself or they think you are about to.

Tell them the same thing you wrote. If you're honest about not being currently suicidal, then they won't lock you up. If you are suicidal, then you probably should be locked up anyway.
