I agree. I believe this is where Bible reading, prayer and the Holy Spirit come in. The Bible reading will make you familiar with what doctrines churches should be teaching. Prayer will give to you wisdom, and the Holy Spirit can help you discern and understand, based on fact, what is going on. Good luck to ya!

I do not follow any specific faith, and have been taught in schools following both the Roman Catholic and Church of England Doctrines.
I was never Baptised or Christened as my parents held a belief that I could choose a religion when I was old enough to understand, instead of being 'brainwashed' from birth.
I have every respect for them doing that.
I am a believer in a creator or designer, call it God, Allah, Jehova, Budda, whatever, as there are certain things which are far too complex for evolution to create. The Human Eye being one of them, so I do not follow Dawinian Theory.
But as for following the teachings of any man made book that we are told is the word of God, sorry, I just do not buy it.
These are all methods in which power hungry people control others.
Yes there is a little something which is good in all these books, Bibles, Koran, Torah etc. One we in the Western world use as a meter for everyday existence is the Ten Commandments. All our laws are fundementally based upon them.
This quest for the 'Truth' you seek is futile. Try to study a little of other theological practices i.e. Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddists etc as well as the various divisions of Christian faith. Look into the Ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman beliefs.
You will never be sorry for the time spent studying this.
You will then be able to draw your own conclusions, once you see various similarities between them. Ying and Yang, Light and Darkness, Good and Evil, etc.
Faith has always been a way of indoctrinating and controlling mankind. The sooner you see this, the closer you will be to the 'truth'.

The best thing you can do is start reading the Bible from page one, that's in Genesis, and read to the end. By using the Bible itself as your standard, then you can see if a church is teaching correctly.
Outside of the Bible, we have no standard by which to judge by. And with this standard, it has to be the whole thing, not just select books or pages. Use the Bible to see if a church measures up. Sorry to say, your gonna be looking for a long time.

The truth that court of Justice wants is facts unconcealed and undistorted. This is purely about handling outside situation in orderly way by a code of conduct for social orderliness by mutual consent through elected representatives enacting in legislative body , forum, etc. These laws could change and could be changed. So the truth required by court is such.
The truth that church and other religions speaks or attempts to propagate is entirely different. In its deepest sense, ultimately it has no or very little relevance to the factual situation. In fact some of the time tested age old religions declare that all that you see is 'illusion' ! Moreover, when rebirths, past deeds of previous births etc are taken into account, then the truth and justice can drastically change sides ! Typically in a court, for example, a person who declares himself insolvent, is exempted from past dues and can have a fresh lease of financial life! Religions do not seem to allow such concessions. On the other hand if sins are forgiven(in some religions), then everything is over ! So it is a matter of personal belief and faith. People listen to the same word 'TRUTH' being spoken about by "authorities" and thus the confusion ! And when people are confused, it is a fertile ground for politicians!

Your question is something everyone seeking for truth should be concerned about. Truth is in the Bible, but it is distorted by men. We have three promises in the Bible that guarantee that we can know the truth but most people and churches will not follow them because of the cost. The first is in James 1 and God says "If any man lacks wisdom let him ask of God and it will be given to him." This is so simple and yet few Christians do it. Just ask God for wisdom, He will give it to you. Second is in John 7:17 and it says, If any man is willing to do my will he will know the teaching." This is where most Christians fail. They already have their minds made up what they want truth to be and so are not truly willing to do what God says and so God does not reveal truth to them. Get your mind into a state where it has no will of its own and it is willing to accept what God says no matter what it is, and you are very close to truth. Third is in John 8:32, "If you abide in my word...you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Stay in the Bible, don't trust the teaching of men, men's explanations of truth, denominational teachings etc. just let the Bible explain the Bible in simple plain language. If you can't see it in the Bible don't accept it. Check out my website it goes into this much deeper. http://www.geocities.com/bwrobinsonca

Listen to some of the sermons my Pastor teaches @ http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Enduring_Truth/archives.asp and you'll get an idea of how a true man of God teaches from the Bible in a way that makes it real for our lives today!
As to your specific question, you can't know what truths they might be "leaving out" unless they either teach a false doctrine that doesn't take into account the whole of God's Word or you listen to them preach long enough to realize that there are certain teachings that seem to never get mentioned.
Read the Bible and download some of the Free teaching resources from my site @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ so that you can be like the Bereans in the book of Acts who searched the Scriptures to find out if what Paul was teaching was verifiable.

The question you should be asking is does the church that Jesus started still exist on earth unchanged by man's interpretations and prejudices? If you want to find the truth look around, listen to your inner voice and when you find the truth you will know it. Take a look at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Forget Churches.. you are right they are all highly suspect because they are built by man. Jesus said you only need to do three things to make it. Keep the 10 Commandments. Love God above all else and your neighbours as your self. It's as simple and complicated as that. Nothing more or less. He was highly critical of the church of the day and of those who made a great show of prayer and religion. He chose a poor simple fisherman as the rock of his church ( now you would not choose a poor fisherman to build the Vatican Palace would you ? ) It may be called St Peters but can you imagine Peter, let alone Christ himself preaching there ?
Where did it all go wrong ?

I don't think you have any idea what you are saying let alone talking about. You are trying to act smart and we all can see right through you. Like some others you are attempting to turn things around to suit your so-called needs and stir up trouble. You don't know what that means when it states the whole truth do you? Heres an idea, why don't you attend a church for about a year straight and get to know the pastor and he will set you straight. Instead of being a smart-ellick you actually might educate yourself. (smile and have a nice day)

Matthew 5:33-37 reads:
Again you have heard it said to those of old. "You shall not swear falsely, but perform your oaths to the Lord". But I say to you, do not swear at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes" and your 'No' be 'No'. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
-----
So what does this mean to the believer in court? Shall (s)he refuse to take the oath and simply let their yes be yes and no be no like the scripture says? I say no, because this teaching was given to Jews of the 1st century - though the principle may indeed apply here & now. See what they think about that.
I suggest to go to this site:
http://www.netzarim.co.il
and see a different perspective regarding Christianity. I am trying to learn more about this, but some pretty persuasive arguments are made there how Joshua (Jesus) and his disciples were Jews and never changed the belief.
