Certainly not. Pit bulls get a bad rap for two reasons, one which is fair and one which is unfair.

1) Pit bulls are a very popular breed right now for people who want to raise a "mean" dog. There are thousands of pit bulls out there that people intentionally abuse in order to make them mean. (It doesn't always work, either! Some of them are too soft-tempered to fight and end up being used as bait dogs)

2) Pit bulls who *are* unstable are incredibly powerful. You can have a horribly aggressive Chihuahua, but they are not capable of killing an adult human. A full grown Pit Bull is, and easily. What this means is that Pit Bull ownership carries a very important responsiblity to be sure the dog is carefully trained and socialized. If you're going to carry a loaded gun, you need to make sure that it has a safety switch.

So when you have a powerful dog and bad owners, it can be a potentially deadly mix. There are still some fantastic pit bulls out there as family dogs and even therapy dogs.

(Quick note: while a toy breed dog like Chihuahua is unlikely to kill an adult human, they CAN still kill an infant. Aggression is bad in any dog, just more dangerous in the powerful ones)

No not all pit bulls are bad. People like Madonna, Michael J Fox, Steve Erwin to name a few own pitts. Pitt bulls were used in WWI1 to run messages, 4 of the dogs used at ground 0 after 9/11 were pit bulls and pit bulls helped find the shuttle when it went down. They are being used as police dogs, drug dogs, Helper dogs for the handicapped. The dog fristed used by RCA was a pit bull and the our gang kids dog was a pit. Two presidents owned pits.

Any dog is a reflection of it's owner, just like kids. Pitt bulls have a bad reputation because the owners of these dogs are not usually the best people in the world. A good person can get a Pitt Bull puppy and it can be the most lovable thing in the world. It almost always depends on how the dog is raised as to what kind of dog it is, Pitt Bull or any other breed. Good question!!

The people that raise the dog make it bad. Also breeding plays into it if both parents were aggressive, then chances are the offspring will also be this way. But usually people raise the dog to be bad.

NO! My friend has a great pitbull and she is very friendly and has NEVER bit anyone. Only people who train there dogs to act viciously are bad. When I lived in a southern state years ago- some people would put big chains on there pitbulls necks and hang meat in trees to build there upper body mass to make them stronger and meaner. These people are the ones who give pitbulls a bad name! And it is a shame they are a nice animal.

No.It all depends on the way you treat him.If you treat him right he'll grow up to be a good dog, but if you treat him badly he'll grow up to be a mean dog. Some people raise dogs for fighting.

not at all.The only reason any dog is "bad" is because theyve had nothing but bad experiences with people or were mistreated and abused by a previous owner.
