If a rescue, a dog who is being fostered with children or who came from a family environment (and was not given up because of aggression issues)

If a pup from a breeder, go to a breeder that has children and raises their puppies in the home. Don't buy from a pet store or from someone who raises pups in a kennel. If you want a pup that's good with kids, you want those first 8 weeks to really count with imprinting that kids are part of "the pack".

Other than that, there are family dogs in every breed. More important is to find a breed that suits the lifestyle and activity level of your family, and then make sure that the individual dog you choose has an energy level that matches your family (yes, there are calm Border Collies and hyper Newfies, even if they aren't the norm)

Beagles aregood dogs. They love kids and if you're looking for a small dog on average they range between 13-15 inches in height when fully grown.

Although there some that are shorter or taller then the standard. They come in various colors here are some of them. The tricolor is the standard, beagles also come in tan and white, chocolate tricolor and lemon which is kind of like a really light blond color. Here's a site that may help you find out more about these great dogs.

It depends on the space you have to work with. If you have a big house and yard, go with a lab or retriever. All of them are very fun and very loving but they are big. If space is an issue, go with Cocker Spaniels or Huskies. They are just as lovable, but not as big. Akitas are good too but very large. The other alternative is to seek out a vet in your area and see if they have any patients who are looking for homes for their dogs. Mutts are some of the best family dogs in the world and seem to be far more devoted all their lives. Good luck!! DOGS RULE!!

Definatly a Labrador Retriever, and if they are raised the right way (by kind and loving people) they are the greatest pets. i have owned several breeds of dogs, but my labs are the best, especially around kids. My son used to ride my black lab when he was around 3 yrs. old, and that dog just loved it. My yellow lab protects my son, and pretty much lets him do anything to her, she even let my son sleep with her and her puppies, the day she had them, like he was one of them....without a doubt in my mind a lab is the best family dog out there!!

I'm going to have to go with a rottweiler. They look big and ferocious, but when you raise them good, they are complete sweethearts! I have a 9 month old and she's like my little shadow, she always has to be where I am. They are loyal dogs and great family dogs.
