I believe we have a life of free will, and that God also enjoys His free will, which is shown by way of miracles.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the uh-yeah's post. The Bible explicitly states that God has predestined those who would be with Him in heaven. I'm not sure where you get that God is not omniscient, benevolent, or omnipotent - He is ALL of those things fully.

How free will works into all -- well that's a big debate. I do feel that they both work together somehow, but just not sure how. As the Bible says, God's ways are higher than ours - and some things will remain a mystery to us!!

I find it absurd that god knows everything but is willing to let us go willy nilly to do as we please, even though he already knows the outcome.

It's a cop-out argument that says that we are allowed to stray away from a god that loves and wants us to be unto him. It covers all the bases.. how simple.

He's already predestined his flock?? What? Then what's the point of following him?

There's no such thing as predestination, fate, blah blah.. And for that matter, god does not exist as well. And if he did, would you want a god that is neither benevolent nor omniscient? How about omnipotent? He ain't that either.

The consequence of past actions is predestined. With some clarity about what could be in store(source of such information could be anything, like astrology, intuition, logic, foresight, etc etc), a person can decide with what kind of an attitude he can face the consequences of such past actions. And such resultant action of facing the past actions would in turn decide the future destiny. So free will does play a very significant role in deciding the future destiny. A very good and important question. Very relevant to ones pursuit of seeking the purpose of life!

Free will. God allows humans to decide for themselves what paths they will follow. He does want people to walk on the path of righteousness, but if He forced them or decided for them (predestination) then we would be no better than mindless idiots. How could we come to know Him or worsip Him if one is predestined not to?

God knows the right path for each person, but leaves that choice to the individual.

Forcing a child to hug you and allowing a child to Want to hug you is two different things. Free will allows us to want to hug God. Predestination don't.

The Bible does not teach that man has a free will. That is a man made idea. The Bible teaches that "God does according to His will in the armies of the heavens and among the inhabitants of the earth and no one can stay His hand or say unto Him, What doest Thou?" We appear to have a free will but scripture reveals to us the behind the human scene God is accomplishing His purposes and no one can change it.

I couldn't give a better answer, rosey.

Free will is right, but you don't know what you're doing two years from now. You can't predtermine what you decision you think you may make years from now. I didn't think I would get married...whoops!
Your choice...

i need to add this, God'd plan is for all mankind to join Him in heaven. That won't happen due to free will.
He loves you that much, whatever choice you make.

If God is all knowing, then predestination is correct. And I am not Hindu. Raised by a Mountain Baptist family, who believes that.

Why not both, God gave us free will, but he being all-knowing already knows what we're going to chose, so he helps us out on the way, protecting us a little here and there, so that we don't get to messed up. I think that would work, God being our creator and guide, instead of our dictator.

It is somehow both isn't it.
We have free will, but yet it is written...
I HAVE CHOSEN MY FLOCK, BEFORE THEY EVER EXISTED I KNEW THEM.
Something like that.
We still have free will to turn our backs on HIM. Somehow He always seems to bring us back to HIM.
For the non-believers???
It is His choice to bring them to HIM.
And we the believers are HIS chosen tools to do so.
I hope that makes a little sense.
I can not go with just one or the other...
Sorry.
God Bless You for asking though.
Good question......
