Never until after they are 2 years old, and have been thoroughly checked for any of the prevalent problems in the breed. Talk to your vet about what these may be. Also, get in contact with reputable breeders of bassets in your area. They may be able to give you more information. Always confirm their recommendations with several sources, to make sure that the information is correct.

On the more serious side, if you don't even know when to breed the dog, you really have to read up on breeding. There are so many things that you need to know, not just when and how, but what to do during the pregnancy, during the labor, when to be concerned about problems, etc. Please get a good reference book, and read up first. It should only take a little while to learn most of the stuff, and then you can make a more informed choice about whether to breed. You may decide that it is not right for you and your dog.

I agree with the previous responses. If you don't even know how old to breed her, how on earth do you know what health clearances she needs to pass before she should even be considered for breeding? Talk to your breeder. If you don't have a relationship with your breeder, you have absolutely no business breeding this dog because you have no idea what is going on with her bloodlines.

Obviously you expected these answers or you wouldn't have suggested "none of this don't breed her business". It's bad enough when people don't know better, but give me a break.

usually at age 2 is perfect because they are mature enough at that age to really be a good mother, and also by then you really know the health of the dog, personality and qualities. If you want to be responsible and produce a nice litter.
good luck :) 6-8 months is way too young as they are still babies themselves, talk with your vet about it.

After she's recieved her Ch. title in AKC competition, cleared her OFA and CERF tests, and after you've found a male who compliments her well.

ok, go ahead if you must, but why breed or buy while sheltered pets die?
