That is so true...some people have a need to have something "tangible" to worship so they find labels for stuff and stick it on there and bow down to it/him/her.
However, God the Father, through Jesus Christ, is only present in Spirit with us at this time. That's why God's Word says that God is Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in Spirit and in Truth.
Christianity is a FAITH, A BELIEF, in the intangible presence of the Lord Jesus Christ with his believers who have received Him into their hearts as their Lord and Risen Savior. He is present with us by the indwelling of His Holy Spirit, who resides with our individual spirits as our witness and as our guide, amongst the many other functions that His Holy Spirit serves.
The Word of God provides us with our instructions from him in his tangible absence. I say absence because He is returning one day in all of His Glory.
I call my self a Christian because I follow Christ, not because I follow other people engaged in a religious order. And I trust God to point me to the teachers, prophets, preachers, etc. that He has anointed and appointed for those roles in my life so that I can continue to grow and learn and change and mature, as God has commanded in His Word.

If a religion is the service and worship of God, then yes Christianity is a religion. But it's also a way of life. Many people claim to be Christians, but you are not a Christian by what you say. It's by what you do. If your actions reflect Christ as He was on earth, then you are a Christian. He came not only to die for our sins, but to live a model life so we all know how to conduct our lives. His actions are in the four books of the gospel. A Christian strives to be like Jesus, and yes, we do sin, but that is why Jesus came down, so now all we have to do is ask for forgiveness with sincerity and try not to sin again. People way back when were killed for sinning. Jesus replaced all of us, so instead of a death penalty, we must humble ourselves. We get second, third, fourth, numerous chances. Jesus is awesome

Christianity is a faith not a religion. Religion requires you to repeat a series of rituals and maintain habitual practices to be in good standing with god or gods. An example might be Muslims that pray in a certain direction at a certain time of day, or Catholics or Buddhist that repeat chants while counting beads. These thing are done the same way when performed to produce the desired effect.

Because Christian leaders say it is. Because it has been acknowledged as a religion by various nations etc. Because that's what happens when you worship anything in the sense that you follow teachings and believe preset beliefs of a certain "way of life." My way of life and my religion are Wicca. It's one and it's both at the same time.

The definition of religion places Christianity within that category. Most people within a religion make it their life, so even in that sense, Christianity is not unique. Call it a lifestyle if you want. Belief in the supernatural, a higher being, a creator, etc... is what is defined as Religion. (Oddly enough, it's also the definition of Cult).

If you just live like a christian is supposed to, but don't read the bible or believe in a christian god or a savior of mankind, then I'd say you were not part of a religion. (Then they'd call you an atheist)
If you believe in the bible and the stories in it, then you are a christian, and it's a religion.

Do you worship a god? Do you have dogma? If so then you practice religion.
re·li·gion

-- A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
-- The life or condition of a person in a religious order.

Unfortunately,
technically Christianity "is" a Religion.
Don't forget that religion takes in a broad range of beliefs...It referrs to any type of belief.
...that includes Christianity, pagan, monotheism, polytheism, wiccan, occult, hinduism, buddhism, judaism, and any other sect.
It's a broad label over everything.
But like you: it's much more than just a 'religion'...It's a way of life.
God Bless.

How can a relationship with the Almighty be considered a "religion?" Man calls it a religion...
You might as well call your marriage a religion, too.

Religion in the websters dictionary means belief and worship. So if you believe in God and worship Him in the name of Jesus, then you have religion. But it is a good way of life, isn't it??
