my mother died when i was four and now i am old enough to try to recreate and finish her works. when im done i want to sign both of our names on each piece but feel as if im overstepping my boundaries. is it acceptable to do that and more importantly would she want me to?

Your mom would be extremely happy that you finished the artpieces. The paintings are now a 'collaborative interaction' pieces and nothing would have thrilled your mother than that. In fact, I suspect she purposely left some of her works unfinished just so you would be inspired enough to paint and work on them. A mother's love know no bounderies, anything that'll make you happy is always welcome.

Just to feel ok about it, I would ask her, and listen in your heart for an answer. Then I would ask her to assist you in it when the time comes. I think she'll be happy and proud to be there with you for it. Don't be surprised to feel her spirit in your hand when the time comes, don't fear it, embrace it.
