various reasons... if for some reason they had a hard-on, the release of semen, just like in men, has protien. Protien is good for dogs and the way they see it, "why waste it". During the day, they will lick their "crank" because it is part of their routine to not get bored and to keep somewhat clean. You'll see them licking their legs and paws and anything else their tongues can get to.
