Hello Jacqueline,
All words in English are classified into 8 Parts of Speech, of which Nouns are a part of.

Nouns are "naming words".

A noun is the name of a person, place, animal, or thing (object).

Nouns can be further divided in 5 types:

Proper (names of particular people or places)

Common (names of common objects)

Collective (names given to groups of common objects)

Abstract (names of feelings, emotions, etc.)

Material (names of all minerals, metals, vitamins, and substances like coal, cork, wood, etc)
