it could be a condition that needs to be checked by a vet... but then again it could alsoo be that its simply too dry and itchy... maybe the dogs improvising and using the saliva as some kindof moisturizer and dragging it across the floor because he has no better way to stratch it. hope this helps bring some resolve to your question.

ps: if this persists or persisted for weeks i recommend a vet... other than that try an anti-itch cream or moisturizer or something... just be sure he wont lick it though... it could be harmul.

They like because its the only way they can keep thier butt clean, and as far as dragging there butt on the ground it could be worms,I know you said he didnt have worms, but did you have him checked for worms, or just didnt see any? They can have worms and you not see it. The there reason is could be his anal gland could be full or possably have an infected anal gland.

I talked to my vet about this same problem for my dog . He told me that sometimes dogs rub their butts just because their butt itches or because they have worms. I suppose dogs lick their butts because they are in a sense bathing themselves

Your dog could be dragging his butt because he has impacted anal glands and he is trying to express them- This is a problem for the vet. The vet would palpate the glands, and get the junk out of the glands if they are too full. My sheltie has to have this done routinely.

well..i have a lot of dogs at home and based from my experiences with them i found out that they tend to be hygienic when they lick their butts...(they don't want stuff sticking out there right?) when they rub it on the ground however means that its itchy or they feel uncomfortable so make sure your dog doesn't just sleep anywhere..cuz they might get infected or something...

This was told to me by my vet...anal glands in the butt area of a dog need to be expressed ..emptied..licking or rolling the butt on the ground stimulates the glands to release....be warned PEEEEE YUUUUUUUU

when dogs have worms they sometimes rub their buts on the ground however they also do it to relieve the pressure in their anal scent glands,, sometimes these glands get clogged,, if it persists u should have a vet visit soon

Definite sign of worms, check with a vet, or worm it your self,

Dogs lick themselves to clean themselves. They drag their butt because they may need to have their anal glands cleaned. Most vets or groomer can do this! Yes Talk to your vet!Good Luck!

They lick their butts because they have no other way to clean them and they rub them on the ground because they have no other way to scratch them. If you have a dog you should clean its butt and scratch it for him and I bet he will stop!
