Ok, I know this has been asked before, but it still bugs me: How can people think the bible is the actual word of God, when he himself didn't correct any of the glaring inaccuracies? I mean, you'd think he'd tell whoever he "dictated" this to, "Ok, make sure you get this. Whales are MAMMALS. Not FISH. Bats are MAMMALS too. Insects have SIX legs, not four. Yes, women's monthly periods seem ooky, but it's NATURAL. Oh, and the most important thing: THE FREAKIN' EARTH REVOLVES AROUND THE FREAKIN' SUN!! Got that? Good. Make sure you underline that and put it in italics. If not...well, there's gonna be this guy named Galileo in a few centuries...and well....things are gonna end in tears, if you catch my drift..."

Apparently some of you aren't quite understanding my question. I know that science wasn't advanced back then. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm addressing people who believe that every word in the Bible came directly from god, no interpretation or anything. I pulled up a site that has numerous passages that directly oppose what we now know in modern science to be true. http://hypertextbook.com/eworld/geocentric.shtml#sun
Why wouldn't god tell the writers of the bible, hey, I know you're thinking this stuff is true, but it's not?

I'm glad you haven't been duped by religion to the point that you can still question the universe.
The Bible and all other religious books have been written by humanity with human interpretation.
It's a fact few people are willing to accept because they want to believe in a higher power so much to answer the meaning of life, the universe and everything.

Regardless of "inaccuracies", and zealous, religious fanatics spouting their dogma and doctrine, arguing over "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin", etc. is not the point.
There are basic, good ideas of how we all can get along, find love, peace, and cooperation to make a better world, that far outshines any petty discrepancies. I look to the "Big Picture", as most all religions share some common truths that work for us all. Unfortunately, most of us are still hung up in needing proof of something quite unprovable, as we cling to the last remnants of our material & physical existence. Just try being happy, rather than right for a change. It could change your world.

heres a hint the earth was created by God and the theories you refute are the ones made up by men and the people he gave the words to were humans and could be judged to be falible but Gods not and he doesnt have to change a thing the bibles just a map and if your going the right way thats all that matters not the doctrines and the theories of men we only need the faith the size of a mustard seedto believe and recieve the promises of GOD

Well I'm pretty fluent in the Bible and I haven't a clue what you are talking about with any orf your illustrations. Also how do you know that it isn't science that is inaccurate. Scientists used to think the world was flat, not the Bible.

I don't think many people in the early days knew the difference between a mammal and a fish so they probably put large sea creatures into one category.

actually, i agree with you overall but disagree on the galileo part,
see the proper interpretation of those verses is that earth is the center of gods universe not the physical universe
while i am an atheist and understand its all written by man, well you catch my drift
the point is to interpret the message and see if its fits in your daily life
the fairy tale nonsense doesnt

If we think that whales are fish and not mammals, does it affect us in any way?
If we think that the earth revolves around the moon, or Galaxy Quest, does it affect us in any way?
If I tell you that I want to kill you, does it affect us in any way?
I think you see my point. I don't want to kill you by the way. G-- loves you and so do I.

If god really cared it would have written the Bible itself!
How did Moses get two blue whales on his ark?

Read carefully, and you will find that you are wrong. Who has given you these ideas? I read the Bible continually, and I don't read anything like this. Can you give specific references?
