o.k. I did sound kind of harsh, but one person said what about his civil right, but what about mine? Sure if smoking did not involve exhaling smoke we would have no problem with it, but it does. I have to think about me, and to prove my point its not even considerd littering thowing your cigerette in the street even cops do it, and they are suppose to uphold the law not break it whats up with that?

1. As a form of peaceful protest, collect butts from ashtrays and sweep them up around your workplace or home. When you've got a significant amount (say, a cubic foot) deliver them to city hall or personally to the mayor (or anonymously if you want), and say, "You are making this pollution and garbage legal. Do something about it." (Or words to that effect.)
2. If you're inclined to and you are sure that the asshol^H^H^H^H^H^H smoker is not violent, carry a non-flammable (no aerosols) and non-irritating air freshening spray. Spray it in the direction of the smoke but DO NOT spray it on the cun^H^H^H smoker. That would be assault. If they ask you to stop, tell them you wouldn't spray if they weren't smoking.
I'm a little more aggressive than that and often pour water on ashtrays when the dimwit puts down the cigarette for a moment, or do other things (eg. "accidentally" knocking them out of their hands with umbrellas). I'm willing to back it up, but I would advise you not to do such things.

Why should our civil rights be violated anymore than they already are?
As it is these days, we are not allowed to smoke in our workplace, in a restaurant, bar, etc.
Pretty much, the only place we are allowed to smoke with impunity is our homes and vehicles.
Not all smokers are guilty to throwing out their cigarette butts, unfortunately though, the few that do, give those of us who don't a bad name.
As it is, these days smokers pay more taxes than a non-smoker, solely because we are smoker's. We have to pay what is called a sin tax on our cigarettes which can range anywhere from $1 to $2 dollars a pack depending upon what area of the country you live in. If every smoker were to quit, then would you like for your property taxes to increase, you sales tax to increase, etc?
*Additional Comments*
If the littering problem bothers you, pick it up and dispose of it properly, carry a cheap surgical glove with you, you can get them at Wal-Mart. Litter offends me too, when I see it, I pick it up and throw it away in the proper recepticle.
Exactly where are you inhaling the vast amounts of cigarette smoke? Outside? Move 10 feet to the right or left. Most public buildings don't even allow someone to smoke anywhere from 30 to 100 feet of a door; so if you can explain where you are getting all of this smoke, please enlighten us. All I can think of is maybe a bar, if that is the case, you should know what the job was when you took it. Find a non-smoking one.
As for your civil rights being violated because of smokers, I don't see how this is possible. If you go a restaurant, last I checked very few even have a smoking section anymore, those that do, are generally outside or are required by law to have a separate ventilation system. Therefore, are you knowingly requesting to sit in the smoking section, for the sole purpose of being able to have a something to gripe about?
If you don't want to breath second-hand smoke, don't go where you know smoker's will be present. Believe there are more places like than not.

I'm not a smoker, and i have to admit I hate the smell. I wont allow smoking in my house, in my car...and I actively try to avoid places where people will smoke. However, I can see the other side of the coin to. Its becoming increasingly hard for smokers. There are fewer and fewer places they can smoke and you need to understand its not just a 'choice' for them it is an 'addiction'. One which is damaging their health badly.

I absolutely hate smoking! And now that I think about it too, so many people die from second hand smoke. My parents smoked my whole life. I lived 18 years with second hand smoke! So now that just makes me kind of mad.
