When you have been emotionally involved with someone for a period of time, and your relationship in that manner ceases, it is very difficult to "be friends". Going to dinner or any other outing is too early. You need time to 'get over' the relationship. Your ex might be hurting in ways you are not aware (men don't always share when they hurt) This "waiting for you" may just be his trying to bide some time. You both need some space. The friendship probably won't come until later - if at all. Plain and simple - it is very emotionally draining and difficult for two people who have shared intimacies and a bond to go from one end of the spectrum - to the other side. It just takes time. If you are trying to make up, and realized you might have made a mistake and rushed the break up - you really have to give the guy some time. And then understand that he might not come back. Love may not have anything to do with it - the circumstances of the breakup and who initiated it might be the stronghold.

My advice is dont play games. I did this for a long time: "i think he loves me..." dont think. Just ask. honesty really is best. Ask him what happened the other night, tell him how you feel, and let him make his decision.

You might be scared of what he will say, but if he doesnt love you, you will be able to have closure and move on.

I think you should still call him to see how he is every couple of days and then let nature take its course with a minor push and he throws hints back off, but still call him so he wont get suspicious

maybe he has moved on - try calling him - if he does the same thing again - assume he no longer has feelings
