Stand your ground. . . Your pet is grandfathered in for the remainder of the lease. If they want to argue that make them let you out of the lease. Don't make the pet suffer . . . Personally I'd tell half the world to go to hell before I parted with my dog. . .

First read your lease very carefully. If the rental agreement you signed says you can have pets, you may still be able to have them even if new tenants cannot have pets. A signed lease is a legal contract.
The phrase used in the US for getting to follow the old rules while newer people have to use the new set is being "grandfathered in." Since you call your apartment a "flat" I'm guessing you might be in England so they could call it something different there.
If you tell us where exactly you live, someone might have more specific advice. For example some cities have "Tenants Rights" rules or organizations to protect renters.
Good luck to you and your pets.

If you have a signed lease that allowed pets at the signing, it is in effect until your lease runs out. If not, they have to provide you with enough notice that you can find another place to live that will take your pets or, you get rid of the pet. Unfortunately owners have the right to change their minds in regard to their own property. You have to respect their rights and try to adjust to accommodate or move someplace else. Personally, if you don't have the lease, I would move. I love my pets too much to give them up. Good luck!! DOGS RULE!!

If you signed a lease that states that you could have pets.. They can not change the rules on you, Until your lease expires. Then just find another place or get rid of your pet.

I would contact your local housing authority and ask them. If you already had the pet (and I am sure that others had them also), and the rules change, they have to allow for you to keep your animals I would think (grandfather them in).
If you have to give up your furry baby, my suggestion would be start looking for a new home where you and your furry child could remain together..

i believe you fall under the old rules and the new does not apply to you talk to a lawyer there butts could be in a sling if they try to force you to remove your pet or try to evict you unless there is a clause in the lease about pets they really dont have grounds to stand on

I would say they can't make the rule retroactive and you and your pet(s) are grandfathered in. I would talk to an attorney, if they try to get rid of your pets.

Sounds like their violating your lease. You might need to take legal action. But if the rules changed after your lease was signed they souldn't be able to do anything.
