Ok, I would just like to know what are the living arrangements during basic training (ARMY)? I'm particularly curious about Fort Jackson in South Carolina. But if anyone could tell me about the places where they stay...like is it still barracks or am I behind the times and its like dorm rooms with two soldiers to a room, etc...Anything will help. Thanks.

i had basic training in fort jackson in 1997 at that time the barricks were relatively new so i doubt they have been rebuilt. each room houses a platoon that is 30 men and 30 women however for living purposes at night two platoons divide men in one room and women in the other there is one big shower and a bunch of bathroom stalls for each room sleeping is done in bunkbeds that get rearranged during the day to make room for teaching and other platoon activities you are given a wall locker for your clothes and other personal effects you must put your name on everything even your underwear (even with the names really big on the butt we had an underwear theif in my platoon) but from all ive heard fort "relaxin" jackson is as good as it gets for basic in the army it is pretty much all desk jobs, communication and intelligence jobs there no infantry at all it really was a lot of fun

I went through Jackson in 2002-03. The living standard is open bay. Depending on the time of year, you will have between 40 and 60 roommates. This will vary by company, but we had to up and ready to go before we were allowed to turn the lights on. You'll probably do a good amount of pushups in the morning.

Oh wait, basic just went soft, so I'm not sure about the pushup thing.

I went threw Jackson 7 years ago, it cant have changed that much, if you like you can add me to yahoo messenger and I would tell ya anything you want to know. If I don't reply it means I am probably at work, sometimes it shows me online but I don't have messenger at work.

the army did alot for me, I am even trying to get back in now.
I will give you this advice, start working out now, do push ups, sit ups and run.
when the drill Sargent is yelling don't take it personal, they are trying to teach you things that might save your life and are in a way also kind of playing a role, like an actor would. they care more for you then you will know.
stick with it, charge forward and you will be threw the bull shiznit in no time.

If you are not married, you will not be able to live on base, and will not be seen as a dependant. Once you marry you will be a dependant, which will help in keeping you close to your husband. I wouyld suggest if you are finacially capable, and sure you are truly ready to marry to do it before enlisting. My fiance has been in the military 4 years, and suprise, he moves and I stay here... He is currently deployed!!! Misssing My soldier! Oh and as a new enlisted soldier, he will go through training ( you cant live with him_ and then when he is stationed he will be required to live on base alone I bleive it is 6 months, atleast my brother did.)

When I went through in 2003 at Ft. Knox, we had several dorm-like bays where 12 of us lived. You get a bunk, a wall locker, and a bunkmate who talks in his sleep. It sucked.

When I was at Jackson females stayed in one " bay " and males in another. A bay is a large room with many bunk beds. It might be different now though but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hahahaha I was there once!!!!! You have 2 bunks side by side with wall lockers between...a large bathroom in the rear....and go to Catholic services even if you are not...you MUST go to church on Sunday to not get stuck doing chores all day and since you will be in the South most of the people will go to the Baptist so you can have more free time if you go to Catholic services...Good luck!!!

well i went to ft leonardwood in 2002, i stayed in a big bay with about 150 other females. it SUCKED sooo much drama. and i dealt with it for 17 weeks because i was an MP and our basic and AIT are combined together. my husband went to ft huachuca and they had 2 man rooms. i guess it all depends on where you go and how long you are staying. good luck.
