The God of the Holy Scriptures is one God. His personality has not changed, and his purposes WILL be fulfilled.
(Deuteronomy 6:4) Jehovah our God is one Jehovah
(Exodus 34:6,7) Jehovah went passing by before his face and declaring: “Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth, preserving loving-kindness for thousands, pardoning error and transgression and sin, but by no means will he give exemption from punishment
(2 Peter 3:9,10) Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Yet Jehovah’s day will come

Look into Deism. I'm not sure how large the "religion" is, but the concept is basically that God created the world and has left us to our own devices. Same God--just with the hands off approach.
What you need to do is realize that the human mind needs to fathom a higher power and existence. Most of what you see written in the bible and other holy books are interpretations of what man thought God wanted. This isn't necessarily the truth. We may never know thwe truth
Every person has their own views on life--and the afterlife. I tend to beleive that everyone has their own religion--no two people follow a religion exactly the same. Religion is a very personal experience and God speaks to everyone differently.
You say the Hebrew God is brutal and violent. Sorry to say, humanity is violent and brutal. We impose on God what we feel he should be. Not the other way around. God was depicted as brutal and violent because life is that way and much more so thousands of years ago, or is it? Human nature hasn't changed all that much around the world--only technology has.

There are 2 aspects to the answer to this question. attempt to come across why you've self belief in a God. what's your source of perception in a God? If it comes from interior you, from the interior, from logically questioning about your self and the universe, then you have all started contained in the right position and followed the right line of questioning. the second one section is, if God really exists, then we prefer to imagine about what His purpose is and what His roles are? Does He merely not sleep there silently or is He extra proactive than we assume of he's? If the mummy from whom the youngster grow to be born might want to not spend a minute without questioning about the youngster, if the scientist can not be passive about the flaws that he has created, if the artist can not lack interest about the artwork he has produced, then is it achievable for God to be silent and resting? If he's not, then how does He decide on to be proactive, does He decide on to confer with us, is He merely sitting up there or does He have some thing to assert? What He has to assert is what you need to hunt for. the single which searches unearths the solutions.

Jehovah was a really mean guy.
If a human being did what Jehovah did, he would be prosecuted for war crimes, or thrown into a hospital for the criminally insane.

My boyfriend is a theist. We had this discussion the other day - which is why he and I don't have much of a problem with the fact that we practice two different faiths. Neither contradicts the other.

Sounds like you have invented a god for yourself. Problem with that is your god can be no larger than you. How is that of any benefit?
