Only one person answered this question correctly which gives pause as to whether or not this is the correct forum for answering questions regarding dog health. You do not look on the back of a bag of food to see how much to feed this puppy. Every breed is different and Chihuahua pups are known to develop hypoglycemia and die if not fed often enough. Feed the pup 4 - 5 times per day. Go in for a well puppy check and have the vet record your pup's weight and make sure that it's healthy. Leave food out for the pup when you're not home. Do not give this pup rawhide to chew (as someone suggested). It can choke on rawhide and/or get an intestinal blockage. A better choice for pups this small is the fat end of a carrot.

Chihuahua's can be hypoglycemic: which means have low blood sugar. What this means is that when they are puppies they will need to be fed multiple times, 4 to 5 times a day because they only eat small quantities at a time. If your not home all day you can leave food down for the puppy (dry food). After the puppy matures you can start feeding it 2 to 3 times a day. I feed my chihuahua's 2 times a day (they are all 1 year or older). I have one that is 3.5lbs, two that are 4.5 lbs & one that is 8 pds. The 3.5 lb one & the two that are 4.5 lbs get fed 2/3 of an 1/8th of a cup two times a day & the 8 pd one gets fed 3/4 of an 1/8th of a cup two times a day. I feed my dogs a high quality food that doesn't have a lot of fillers (Innova) in it so you have to take that into consideration when deciding how much to feed your dog after they are matured. A lot of dog foods will give you amounts to feed your dog if they weigh a certain amount, I spoke with my veterinarian about this & they said that the dog food manufacturers usually put down more then the dog actually needs to stay fit & healthy. I guess if your dog is gaining weight cut back a bit & if they are loosing weight add more food. Obviously if the dog is highly active in certain seasons you will need to compensate during those months. Remember however that when you chihuahua is a puppy feed him or her multiple times. They are growing & need the nourishment & you don't want their blood sugar level to drop. Signs of this would be Lathargic, weakness, possible seizures, coma & in severe cases death. A great book to buy if you are a first time chihuahua owner is Chihuahua's for dummies. It gives a lot of useful information that will help you learn about chihuahua's.

it goes by weight if you read the back of the puppy food bag it will have a chart so you should read the chart and you need to split that amount into 3 differnt feedings so fill a cup with that amount of food and feed him a little in the morning then after noon then in the evening.
Good Luck

With a puppy, have free access to dry kibble 24/7 along with fresh water.
It will have to get older before it is capable of holding it long enough to be house trained, so for now, free feeding is best.
An night, 2 tablespoons of moist food will settle the pup's stomach and allow it to sleep for several hours.
The website below will get you off to the right start with lots of helpful advice.
Enjoy your pup!

feed him 3 times a day.. the amount will depend on the quality of the food... if its a crappy food (any from grocery store or wal mart) you will feed more than if its a premium quality food (one with chicken, turkey, or lamb meal as first ingredient)
since premium foods have more nutrition and less filler they dont need to eat as much and have less poops too

it all depends on what kind of dog food you are feeding your puppy. iambs or science diet are my favorites they have the instructions on the bag. please follow them if you use these good choices. there are also other choices of food read the label and always make sure you have plenty of water for your puppy at all times. springer's cockers spaniels
