Media Center has very strict requirements, therefore not any computer can run Media Center, hence there is not much use for another subsitute media center. The most out there is just a movie/picture/music viewer, which Windows Media Player 10 is great for.

Media Center requires you computer to have a TV tuner, a high end video card, sufficient RAM, and lots more. For those high demands, you are not able to find any Media Center Editions on sale in any stores. Any copies of Media Center would be considered "gray copies" which Mircrosoft would offer no help or support for.

You can buy Media Center OR you can check out MediaPortal, it's opensource software that will turn any XP machine into a Media Center(ish) PC, it looks, acts and in many ways functions exactly like Media Center, check it out, http://www.team-mediaportal.com/

You can buy OEM copies of Media Center from newegg, http://www.newegg.com/
