Things that steam generally work out very well in the microwave considering what it does. Baked potatoes work out especially well. Just wrap them thoroughly in Saran wrap (and believe it or not, you don't poke holes in the saran wrap, you want the steam pressure to build up), and microwave them for eight minutes.

They come out perfect every time and take a lot less than the hours you have to spend baking them in the oven.

That also works out really well for sweet potatoes.

Steamed veggies, of course, just get a zip top bag, put a damp paper towel in it, place the veggies on top, and then seal all but one little corner of the bag, and microwave for a couple of minutes. Does great.

That also, by the way, works for those pre-cooked crab legs you can buy in the store. Wrap in damp paper towel, put in the microwave, and nuke 'em for a couple of minutes. They reheat, they don't get waterlogged, and they don't overcook and become rubbery. =)

There are tons of things you can do with a microwave to make good food. I hear it even makes decent popcorn!

Cook some corn on the cob.....place in shallow microwave pan with just a teeny bit of water in the bottom....cover with saran plastic wrap. Cook on high (I don't know how long, sorry....check it here and there...probably about 8 min or so)......it steams the corn and doesn't boil the flavor out. It's really good! Try it out sometime.....serious!

I make peanut brittle every Christmas in my microwave and it is really good. I also make baked pears by cutting the pears in half and putting them in a glass dish with melted butter and brown sugar and microwaving til pears are tender. Serve with whipped cream cheese.
