It depends on if your teeth are impacted or not. That will be the factor on whether you get local or general. And yes, people can die from oral surgery not so much for the procedure but if you get a bad infection from not following the surgeons instructions. Take all of your antibiotic if given and don't smoke, drink through a straw, don't drink pop( the bubbles are said to release the blood clot ) you can get dry socket from doing all of that and it is very painful, do eat soft food and get a medicene dropper to squirt out the holes because food will get trapped back there and make a bad taste in your mouth and could cause infection. Good luck ! P.S Vicodin is a good pain killer and helps tremendously.

General is a more relaxed and patient comforting treatment to get your teeth out. It will be less pain and it is better if you don't want to feel the removal of the teeth. It is very safe. Most of those people who have died are those people with severe medical complications like really high blood pressure. You have nothing to worry about. They will monitor you the whole time. THe dentist is a board certified in general anesthesia and if it is an oral surgeon you are going to, they are medical doctors as well.

If you don't have any health complications to start, I wouldn't be very concerned about general anesthesia. People don't die as often as you may think from it. If you have already had it done the way you are most comfortable and had no problems, do it again. But don't be anxious about general anesthesia, I had it to get all my wisdom teeth out and it was fine. Talk more about it with the doctor, he'll have good advice, but it is still your choice.

I had mine out with local, they will numb it up really good so you don't feel a thing. I did mine 1 at a time though all 4 had to come out to make room for braces to be put on and teeth to move. Either way you will be fine. Just be sure if you are taking any medicines or have any health conditions you let the dentist know before they put you out. I've never heard of anyone dying from having teeth out. They only put you out a short time.

You won't die. It is a very safe procedure. The dentist can look at the X-rays and tell you if it will be an easy removal. If it's easy, just get a local. You will recover more quickly from that than from being put to sleep.

I had mine out 7 1/2 years ago. Since they could put them and did not have to cut them out, I had Novocaine shots to numb it and it barely hurt at all afterward, and I'm a big baby when it comes to pain.
My husband, on the other hand, had to have his gums cut to get them out. He had Novocaine shots and he had to tell the oral surgeon to give him more in the middle of it. The Novocaine wore off in the middle and he could feel everything.
A friend of mine had them cut, and he was put under to do it. He was swollen and in a bit of pain after wards, but had no problems during or otherwise.
So, depending on whether they're being pulled or cut, you have several options.
And just a side note, I have been under anesthetics for same day surgery and came out of it just fine, and I'm a smoker. So, don't worry unless you have a major health problem. Then you should talk to your dentist about it. And if you're worried then have him go over, in detail, all of the pros and cons and risks of all of your options.

More people get it done under local, i used the general method. I literally closed my eyes , it seems like a second, and opened them not knowing the proceedure had even occurred. The facility also gave me plenty of meds to help with the healing and also a valium prior to the proceedure. Was a good experience all and all.

Local would be just fine, just make sure you get painkillers for afterward, thats the tough part. I had all 4 pulled at once. Now that hurt. I have never heard of anyone dying from this, it is a very common proceedure.

general. it hurts like hell. you'll probably wish you were dead afterward, but you won't die.
If you're getting 2, have your dentist do all 4 at the same time so you don't have to go through the hell a second time. Your face is going to feel like you've been beaten with a baseball bat whether you do 2 or 4, so it's best to kill it all at once.
Good luck! You'll live.
