Forgive my ignorance. My mother didn't say a word about deoderant and would always ignore my questions about shaving. I had to figure it out myself - WAY TOO LATE! And then I had to pay for the stuff myself. In my opinion, that is why my mom didn't talk about it. Then she didn't have to fork over the $$.

I don't want my daughter to be confused and/or ridiculed. She also just asked me about it and I really wasn't sure what to say. She is only 7 1/2 but is quite active and is a very healthy weight.

Thanks for the help!!

Young girls are renound for sensitive skin. Start off with a powder if she has a sweating problem that is noticable or bothers her. As long as a gentle deodorant is used, and it doesn't irritate her skin it's pretty much harmless. at this young I wouldn't reccomend using it daily, however it could also help her feel a little more grown up, and more independent. Again dont use a stick with heavy perfumes, I'd reccomend dove. If u feel uncomfortable with her using d/o then introduce it when you notice she's getting stinky.

I was about 12 when I needed deodorant. There's no certain age........just whenever you start to notice her shirts smelling when you wash them. Not just a sweat smell, but a body odor smell.
If your daughter has light hair, I would tell her to stay away from shaving as long as possible lol! I have very dark hair and have been shaving since I was 9. I'm tired of it. I had no choice, I had to start shaving early. But if her hair is light enough, tell her to wait as long as she can!!!
Just please don't wait too long to tell her about her period. I've seen girls flip completely out thinking something was wrong with them because they started having periods before they even knew what was happening. Some girls start as early as 9, so be prepared to have THAT talk soon.

I started using it in 5th grade. But you can use it earlier if you find your daughter needs it. If she is very active and has the sweaty smell then by all means go ahead! But she is probably still to young. I remeber that kids at that age still have the 'playing with puppy dogs' dirty smell. This will go away and then she will have the stinky, needing deoderant smell!

deodorant at any age. However I just went to the Dr because I had a lump in my arm pit. He said that alot of amrican women get them because they shave and ude deoderant so the oil can not escape naturally and it gets clogged on the inside and forms a ball.

my son was fresh out of pre school when i first smelled his funk. I gave him a stick of suave, it is mild enough for his sensitive skin. I also explained what it was for and explained the importance of the soap and the shower. He laughed at me because I joked about it with him, but i let him smell his dads work out shirt and he got the picture. When you can smell her give her some. I wouldnt worry about it until then. Not al children are the same, some need it sooner than others.

I didn't start using deorderant till I was about 10 or 11. And the reason I started was because one day my mom was sitting next to me and decided that I needed it. So I think that if she starts needed it, it is a good time for it to come in play.

My daughter just turned 11 She has her own bottle of it. I think around 9 or so..even earlier. Just go buy some and have it on hand for her. I dont blame you for protecting her against that.

I think somewhere between 9 and 11, probably. But if your daughter feels she needs it now, I doubt it will do any harm.
